October 7 2016: Harvey Nichols exclusively unveils NORTH WIND an installation in partnership with CIFF (CIFF – northmodern – Art Copenhagen). Housed in the iconic London store’s concept space, Project 109, NORTH WIND represents CIFF’s vision of the modern Scandinavian male and presents a carefully curated edit of menswear, art, gastronomy, design and lifestyle objects, that offer a glimpse into how the Scandi man lives, works, dresses, what he eats and how he designs his home. Pushing the boundaries and reinventing the traditional trade fair concept, Harvey Nichols and CIFF short circuit the usual trade-to-retail-to-consumer model by offering products direct to the customer.
Under the direction of Mr. Kristian W. Andersen Director & Creative Director for CIFF, the exciting new concept will be in place for a total of seven weeks, and has three distinct phases that will showcase a unique blend of curation, creative collaborations and an unfailing eye for spotting and nurturing emerging design talent. The concept space will be intricately designed to reflect the modern Scandi man’s lifestyle introducing everything from the bike he rides to his bed sheets as well as his clothing, furniture and grooming products. Covering a range of price points from everyday fashion, accessories and grooming products such as: Newline Halo, Tonsure, Martin Asbjørn, Tom Wood, Willy Chavarria, Han Kjøbenhaven & Raaw in a Jar, the concept will also showcase a range of larger luxury items. The iconic “Arctander Chair” by Paustian, originally designed in 1944 by architect Philip Arctander and recently re-launched this summer, has been upholstered in a range of colours and material including numbered edition shearling which will be available in store. Furthermore, new editions of Paustian’s “Modular” sofa, designed by Erik Rasmussen & upholstered in textiles from the new Kvadrat/Raf Simons collection, handmade wooden furniture from Noyer and a lighting installation from Mieke Meijer will also be on sale. The concept will evolve over the installation period showcasing the three distinct phases that Andersen has curated.
As part of the gastronomy offering North Wind is collaborating with Frederik Bille Brahe, one of Copenhagen’s most buzzed about up-and-coming young chefs, and founder of Atelier September and restaurant Havfruen. Frederik will be creating signature dishes for a special supper club, taking place on 3 November in the Wallpaper* Bar + Kitchen located in Project 109. His mission is to elevate simple, everyday food with unique twists, challenging the customer’s expectations with a cuisine that breaks away from the current Nordic trends.
The opening phase of NORTH WIND commencing 6 October and in place until the 21 of the month, takes a closer look at the ‘Modern Viking’; with a history steeped in intrepid explorers, fierce warriors and tales of Viking exploits on land and sea, CIFF will introduce the Harvey Nichols customer to what it means to be a Scandinavian male in today’s climate.
The second phase, running from October 22 to 2 November, looks a little deeper into ‘Scandis Behind Closed Doors’; they say you can tell a lot about a man by the way he dresses, CIFF says you can learn a lot more by the way dresses his home. Design is a part of Danish identity and no detail is too small to be overlooked.
The final phase, unveiled in the lead up towards Christmas from the 3-27 November, introduces the Harvey Nichols customer to the concept of “hygge”; a deeply ingrained way of culture in Scandinavia. Entitled ‘A Little Hygge For The Holidays’ this concept will represent all those little and not so little things that Scandinavian’s do for themselves and for each other that take the edge of modern life, injecting a feeling of warmth and comfort that everyone deserves.
